The first "hero" asset of my long term personal project to rebuild my grandfather's metal shop in cg! This is one of the more important assets from my grandfather's shop. A machinists vise of incredible strength and quality. It's clear from the photos I took of his metal shop that he relied upon this piece of equipment constantly for his work, and used it frequently. Reading further about this particular model through blogs and postings led me to the understanding that many other craftspeople, like my grandfather, found this vise to be an integral part of their own shops, and something even to aspire to own. It represents a solid piece of craftsmanship itself with a history of durability and reliability that extends more than a century beyond the company that initially manufactured them.
This portion of the project has several additional technical goals for me:
1. Validating a CAD model to production ready asset workflow for games or VFX pipelines using Plasticity and Blender Bridge.
2. Fully understand material authoring out of Substance Painter for PBR pipelines using ACES color space.
3. Understanding USD and it's applications in Houdini and other studio pipelines.
