Original color thumbnail. The curvature of the hallway windows had to be toned down from the concept because the twist was so extreme it didn't look mechanically possible when i tested it. Each segment had to be too tiny.

I created a cylinder, angled edge loops, extruded those surfaces to get a hallway. Then I extracted the hallway segment and duplicated it, flipped normals, recorded how I angled the new element and snapped the verts on the original to match the duplicate.

Warped surface for modelling. All panels have to be extracted and extruded from the original hallway ceiling so they line up.

you get some weird shapes, so you gotta be on your toes.

Making sure the panels worked when butting up against the new section was important. I put in a bulkhead to make the transition less noticeable.

View back along the hallway, just duplicated each segment with a few panels removable for variation. light blockers at either end.

I almost like it as a vertical piece more. I think it gives a better sense of orientation, and that it's a weightless situation.

Overgrown Station

I did a small thumbnail in 2018 messing around with some techniques for generating quick color thumbnails using photos. I liked the result, but the idea of having a bending station was beyond me technically at the time. This year I've been studying the basics of SubD modelling through Andrew Hodgson's ArtStation blog.

I thought this would be a good way to practice some of the techniques he outlines. The warping of the walls and ceiling made every element more challenging because you couldn't model one element and then mirror, or rely on everything lining up like it would on a standard model. You have to extract each plane from the original shape and make sure you don't get any weird warping on the final model with your faces.

I also want to thank Jeff Bartzis for helping me think about how to make the walls align upon duplication/rotation.
